These pages started out as a concept pitch that I had intended to show to publishers, but I never got around to that. According to my research, working with an established publisher has become somewhat of an obsolete business model these days. So, I am now developing "Tusk" into a standalone product for self-publication. It would be great to get some public reactions to the art and I.P. Let me know what you think.

Dang, that there is some GREAT cover art! Reminds me of the Conan books and COnan and Red Sonya comics from the 80s and 90s. Really excellent work!

Thanks! This comic is partially a spoof of those swords and sorcery novels/comics from the 70s

I love the golden age of fantasy novels, which was from the 70s-early 90s! The covers back then couldn't be beat!

Yeah, many of those covers were great! Many of the underground comics of that era were amazing, too. I generally didn't like the subject matter or the stories, but I loved the artistic techniques they used.

Just discovered this comic, & just finished reading it thru to [2020/06/15].
If Frank Frazetta & Richard Corben had a "Love-Child", do you think she would be as pretty as Khthonis?
I daresay that at the very least, she'd be every bit as dangerous.
:)

Yes, this comic was intended as a rip-off of homage to those two titans of cheesy 70s pulp novel covers!

Back in the '70's, I collected many of the "E.R.B."-titles in ACE-paperback form, as much for their covers as for the stories!

If you are thinking that the cover is a spoof on "Liberty leading the people" by Eugene Delacroix, then you thought correctly!

I've been here before, but this time I'll say how much I love this image. Frazetta was my hero as a teen. I always thought he'd had the models for his work in the studio with him, and well... Like I said, teenage me. I gotta say, as vicious as Tusk looks here, she's kinda sexy, you know? Keep up the tradition, it's your turn to carry this torch.

From what I have researched, it seems most of Frazetta's figures were drawn from memory. He just had an incredible natural visual memory. In my opinion, his principles of visual storytelling were the most powerful components of his paintings. It's those principles that I attempt to emulate. And yes, I always want Khthonis to be somewhere right in-between sexy and scary! lol

I was reading your description here, and understand your point of view. When I starded reading your comic I thought you must be a professional artist working for publishers with some other project, the quality of your artworks is stunning. With publishers in my country we have a similar problem, which means that you can hope to get noticed and published if you have a big following on facebook already, if not, you can be good as you want, they won't risk it, and many times even if you get published you won't have lots of support (promoting) or retribution. Anyway, great work with your comic, I like your style and your use of colors, I will comment more on the story as soon as I read everything!

Yes, many indie publishers that I have researched require the artist to bring their own existing social media following to the table, and they require the artist to run their own crowdfunding campaign if they want their work printed. Which leads to the inevitable question: what do we artists need a publisher for at all? I prefer to self-publish and rely on my own marketing and direct sales for visibility.
