Tusk now has an official Patreon page! I will always upload the comic here for everyone to read for free, but if anyone were interested in giving a little bit of additional support to my work, it sure would give me the resources to produce more pages more quickly!
If you like the comic, consider voting for Tusk on topwebcomics
In case you haven't seen it, check out "Mindfold" my other comic on Comicfury

I'm guessing that was always a problem fighting in a crowded deck fight in the age of sail

Fantastic characters!
Also, the out-of-focus background with some more fighters - great!

I just noticed that the redhead on the far left seems to have some sort of pistol. I'm pretty sure that's the first one I've seen in this comic!
I get the impression that personal firearms are exceedingly rare in this world. Is that due to scarcity of resources (lack of sulphur or saltpeter, for instance), a general preference to use magic in a fight, or is there some other reason?

Yes it is, indeed a pistol. Firearms are rare in this world, though one did appear on this page. A constant theme in this comic is me trying to imagine how a hypothetical society and civilization would develop in a universe where magic is real. So, I conjecture that some people would prefer to rely on magical technology to get things done, while others would rely more on mechanical technology. Most tools in such a world would probably incorporate a combination of both. Which choices a person would make in any given case would depend on all sorts of factors, such as culture, wealth, laws, aptitude, religion, etc.

@Fallopiancrusader:
I imagine that one of the considerations is the existence of technology that enables any old yahoo/thug to suppress magic. This would encourage a balanced mixture of technologies that were magical, non-magical, & mixed. The alternative is to risk being rendered defenseless. We've seen this already, when our Lady-Orc first met the Ambassador-in-a-fishbowl

@dmc_run There are definitely many varieties of magical and non-magical technologies available. There are also social and political covenants that regulate some aspects of those technologies. For example, it seems that anti magic grenades and firebombs come with some sorts of prohibitions attached to them.

So Tusk is Rainy Day Woman #12, and this lady is #35?
They'll stone you when you're raiding a ship of pride.
They'll stone you when you have lost your ride.
They'll stone you when you're tryin' to make a buck.
Then they'll stone you and then you'll say "Oh, F*ck!"
Tell ya what, I would not feel so all alone,
Everybody must get stoned.

Yes, the crew was lucky that there were some heavy hitters aboard!

@jes: Yes, it is! The races of Mindfold seem to live in this world as well. Perhaps the two worlds have some sort of history together...

One of the high-priced Champions pulled her weight.
The other didn't do anything.
Our Girl did the heavy lifting.
The crew finished the job.
That's probably about how it's going to be. Hope the Ambassador is getting her money's worth out of the other one in political points

Well, the archer did take out the mortar in the seahorse-sub. That thing would have caused a lot more casualties if it had remained intact...

I am figuring that gorgons in this world have to take the time to consciously focus their power in order for it to have effect. Otherwise, if everyone who makes eye contact with them automatically turns to stone, they would be complete outcasts. So I interpret gorgons here to be slightly less powerful than they are in Greek mythology. Still, gorgons traditionally were a decorative eyeless mask when in general society, as a formal courtesy. Yes, she can see through the eyes of her snakes when she is wearing a mask.

Or even her bones. Do the snake spines physically attach directly to her skull, or is there some kind of multi-dimensional magic going on?

Friendly reminder from the sidelines: whenever you vote for Tusk at Top Web Comics, please be certain to vote for Mindfold, right "next door", as well. There's been a steady gap of about a dozen votes this month keeping Mindfold teetering on the edge of the top 100 and I'd like to see that gap disappear next month.

Hey, thanks for the props, Jawbone! I know I've been slow to update of late, but work obligations have been getting in the way...
